ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

TIMING FOR EXTRACTION, IMPLANT PLACEMENT, AND GRAFTING
Numerous details are indispensable to achieving an excellent and, long-lasting
outcome in Implant Dentistry. Among them is the increasing need for bone and soft
tissue augmentation, in both vertical and horizontal aspects. However, these grafts can
be applied at different moments of the treatment, according to the clinical situation.
Immediate or delayed implant placement, ridge preservation procedures, and staged
grafts and implant placement are the possible choices to rehabilitate patients who will
have unrestorable teeth replaced by implants. Digital planning and guided implant surgery
can assist in improving outcomes. This presentation will discuss risk assessment, patient
selection, treatment planning, and alternatives, aiming at making the right decision of
when to do immediate, late, or early implant.

SURGICAL ALTERNATIVES FOR THE ATROPHIC POSTERIOR MANDIBLE
Several surgical techniques are employed to vertically reconstruct atrophic alveolar bone.
However, these ancillary techniques have higher morbidity and are technique sensitive,
prone to more complications with less experienced surgeons. The use of short implants is
an alternative to adequately restore partially edentulous patients, and its use has grown
exponentially in recent years due to great improvements in materials and techniques.
Recently, ultra-short implants have been introduced, showing promising results for the
rehabilitation of patients with severely resorbed alveolar ridges. This presentation will
review indications, risks, and benefits of the existing surgical alternatives to rehabilitate
the atrophic posterior mandible with bone augmentation and implants.
